Abstract
The quality of Dampit coffee beans, Malang Regency, is greatly influenced by the proper drying process. However, traditional drying methods often face obstacles, such as dependence on weather and low efficiency, which impacts the quality of the coffee beans produced. This article examines the development of a biomass waste energy-based coffee bean dryer design as a sustainable solution to improve coffee quality in the Dampit area. This dryer design is designed to utilize local biomass waste, such as rice husks and sawdust, as an environmentally friendly alternative energy source. Through a community service program, this design was implemented and tested in several coffee farmer groups in Dampit. The results showed a significant increase in drying efficiency and uniformity of coffee bean moisture, which contributed to improving the final quality of the coffee product. In addition, this technology also helps reduce agricultural waste, making it a solution that is not only economical but also environmentally friendly. This article also discusses the challenges in implementing this technology in the field and provides recommendations for further adoption among Dampit coffee farmers. Thus, this innovation is expected to increase the competitiveness of Dampit coffee in the national and international markets.
