ABSTRACT
The government is responsible for providing quality and adequate housing for all its citizens. As a developing country, Malaysia has a role in providing adequate and affordable housing for the community, which is an influential national agenda. The Malaysian government has introduced various housing policies and programs to achieve the agenda of providing adequate and affordable housing for the community. Likewise, in Indonesia, the Indonesian government is making every effort to provide housing for its citizens. That is a priority in development planning where the housing planning policy guidelines are in this planning. Universities as think tanks can contribute to a country's development planning. One is managing border areas in the housing and settlement infrastructure sector. Communities at the border are still not optimal in obtaining fundamental infrastructure accessibility rights. The method of community service activities is carried out through discussions using a lesson approach and sharing sessions for each contributor, comparing the experiences of various universities involved by the government in planning border area management in the housing infrastructure sector. The results of this activity show that the critical role of universities in managing border areas in the housing infrastructure sector significantly contributes to a country's development planning. That can be seen from the involvement of universities in Malaysia, which are not only think tanks in development architecture but also include development policy studies so that some of these things can be adopted in the involvement of universities in Indonesia, especially in Riau Province, in development planning and management of border areas in the housing infrastructure sector.
