Rethinking The Indonesian Local Wisdom: A Way Of Implanting Character Education Using Traditional Games

Abstrak

Indonesia has many tribes along with its each traditional games, for example Sundanese has Hahayaman, Ucing Sumput, Sunda Manda, and Endog-Endogan, while Javanese gets Gobak Sodor, Patil Lele, Jamuran, Engklek, and many more. Balinese, Madurese, Dayak, and other tribes also has its own traditional games. Traditional games were born from the ancestors which contains values, teaching, including character educations as their local wisdom. This research aimed at describing kinds of traditional games from some tribes in Indonesia, including Sundanese, Javanese, Madurese, Balinese, and Dayak. Besides, it aimed at analyzing the values, norms and character education contained in each game based on their way of playing and songs it was using. This was qualitative research. The data were taken from combination of documents, observation, and interviews. The results showed that Sundanese, Javanese, Madurese, Balinese, and Dayak have many traditional games in which some of them were still being played and some others were started to be left. Besides, some of the games were played only using movements, but some others were using songs sung by the players as the companion. The traditional games taught the players to be sportive, respect the differences, independence, respect the gender equality, and other values, norms, and teaching. From the research, it could be concluded that implanting character education on children could be in fun ways with games. Besides, by using traditional games, it helps the tradition become well preserved.
