DEFINISI SEJARAH DAN KONSEP PEACE EDUCATION (PENDIDIKAN PERDAMAIAN)
Abstrak
Peace education (peace education) is still a vital need for humanity and nations
throughout the world. This is because the world has not yet fully enjoyed a sense of
security, living in peace and non-violence. Conflict and violence, even war still
characterizes various parts of the world. Therefore the world feels the need to hold a
special warning in order to create peace. Members of the United Nations (UN) every
September 21 is celebrated as the International Day of Peace (IDP). In 1981, the UN
General Assembly adopted Resolution No. 36/37 concerning the International Day
of Peace. In 2002, the UN General Assembly officially declared September 21 as IDP.
Every year the world commemorates IDP with a different theme. Peace Education
was the theme of IDP in 2013.
Peace Education (PE) itself has become a global movement. In 1999, thousands of
people representing hundreds of organizations attended the International Peace
Conference in The Hague, Netherlands. The event sparked The Hague Appe for Peace,
which called for the cessation of all wars and the dissemination of a culture of peace.
One of the results of The Hague Appeal, the establishment of a Global Peace
Education Network to support PE applications around the world. So how is PE
implemented in the Islamic world? In Islamic teachings, PE or Peace Education is
actually not new. Islam itself, from a linguistic point of view, has a peaceful meaning.
Therefore, it is not an exaggeration to say that Islam is a religion of peace. There are
at least three reasons, namely: first, Islam itself means self-submission (submission)
to God and peace (peace). Second, one of the names of God in al-asma` al-husna is
the Most Peaceful (al-salam). Third, peace and compassion are examples practiced
by the Prophet Muhammad SAW. Furthermore, Zuhairi Misrawi added that peace is
peace at the heart and pulse of religion. Rejecting peace is an attitude that can be
linked as rejecting the essence of religion and humanity.
