Teori Peace Education: Definisi, Sejarah dan Konsep Peace Education

Abstrak

Peace education theory refers to the understanding that education can provide an
important role in peace and can reduce conflict or disputes which can build a safe
and peaceful society. This theory is based on the understanding that conflict is a
natural part of human life but peace education teaches to preventing conflcts that
cause bad and chaotic atsmosphere, fostering high values of tolerance so that we
can protect exsiting differences without discrimining between each other.
Peace Education theory aims to create a society that is more aware of conflict and
able to overcome it, and more committed to promoting peace in all aspects of life.
Through peace centered education we can contribute to efforts to reduce conflict
and increase tolerance and create a more peaceful world. The need for peaceful
education has recently become increasingly important. At a time when humans
are enjoying life in the global era with the development of the industrial era 5.0
and the sophistication of advances in information technology, most people utilize
their activity time with technological devices. Physical togetherness is decreasing,
caring for each other is no longer a top priority. Many people appear to be gathered
in small groups, but they are not actually congregreating. Physically close together,
they each carry their own communication tools and communicate via cyberspace.
As a result, social togetherness where they live becomes tenouous.
In Indonesia awareness of peace education is starting to grow, even though the
world of education is still struggling to find a more appropriate curriculum format.
Changes from the 1984 curriculum, then the competency based curriculum, the
education unit level curriculum, the 2013 curriculum, and the national
curriculum are a challenge and at the same time an opportunity for the
development of peaceful education. These curriculum changes allow the content
of peace values to be increased or strengthened. The problem with peace education
as a new concept is the need for more mature formulation of implementation
strategies and consistency in their implementation.
