Innovation of Lemuru Fish Bagiak Cake for Economic Empowerment of Poklahsar Lazora in Banyuwangi

Abstract

Banyuwangi Regency has significant fisheries resources, one of which is lemuru fish as an important commodity for coastal communities. However, the utilization of lemuru fish is still predominantly limited to fresh products and simple processed products, resulting in suboptimal economic added value. This community service activity aimed to improve the capacity of Poklahsar Lazora through the development of innovative Lemuru Fish Bagiak Cake products as value-added food products and to strengthen production, business management, and marketing aspects. The activity was conducted using a participatory approach through several stages, including partner needs identification, production training, product manufacturing practices, business management assistance, and marketing strategy strengthening. The results show that partners are able to produce innovative Lemuru Fish Bagiak Cake products, implement more standardized production processes, improve their understanding of simple business management, and gain knowledge regarding product packaging and digital marketing strategies. This activity demonstrates that local resource-based product innovation has the potential to increase the added value of fisheries products and strengthen community business capacity. Further development is required to improve product quality consistency, expand market access, and support the sustainability of partner businesses
