The events of 9/11 brought significant changes to the international system which was previously focused on the direct influence of major powers such as the United States and Britain, now shifting to the influence of global media giants such as CNN, Reuters and the BBC. Through this shift in influence, an important agenda related to the events of 9/11 attracted the world's attention, namely the Global War on Terrorism, which is closely related to the Islamic world. Propaganda carried out by the global media is able to form perceptions in the form of global stereotypes which always give rise to bad representations of the Islamic world, namely that Muslims are terrorists. This article will discuss how the global media portrays Islam and how they are able to shape global perceptions through the perspective of Electronic Colonialism Theory, as well as the reaction of the Muslim world towards it.
