Abstract

ABSTRACT

Citrus is a important fruit in the world. It became the first in international fruits market. Indonesia is among the second largest citrus importing countries in ASEAN. Citrus is a one of the horticultural comodities that serves as a source of nutrition, a source of income, and a source of foreign exchange. Global competition for increased sales of citrus and the resilience of the citrus industry depend on availability of genetically good cultivars. Citrus plant breeding can be done by crossing and somatic hybridization techniques. Identification of citrus plant breeding results can be done based on morphological, anatomical, cytogenetic and molecular characters. Molecular analysis is more accurate because it is done at the DNA level. The first thing to do to identify the citrus plant molecularly is DNA isolation. Isolation of the citrus plants DNA can be done using CTAB (Cetyl Trimethyl Ammonium Bromide) method. After DNA is obtained, DNA is tested in quantity and quality to find out the level of concentration and purity. Methode of CTAB can be used for isolating citrus DNA.
