An air conditioner (AC) is the most effective way to cool indoor air. However, the increasing use of AC brings challenges in meeting global electrical energy demands. One method to reduce AC electricity consumption is employing evaporative cooling by water spray system. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to design an evaporative cooling system that can be applied directly to split-type air conditioner with a compressor power of 1 PK. The design of the evaporative cooling system uses a pump to supply water to nozzles attached to an aluminum frame which are then mounted behind the condenser without needing permanent modification. The cooling system's calibration process showed optimal settings of a water flow rate of 0.8 liter/minute produced by the pump, with the distance between the nozzle and the condenser set at 20 cm. The test results found that using an evaporative cooling system with an optimal configuration decreases total electricity consumption by 13.19%, representing a 9.03% increase in the Coefficient of Performance of the air conditioner.
