Abstract

Ibn Khaldun is one of the greatest Islamic thinkers who made significant contributions to the fields of economics, sociology, and politics. He lived during the Hafsid Dynasty in North Africa and produced a monumental work entitled Muqaddimah, which remains relevant for scholarly study to this day. Ibn Khaldun’s economic thought emphasizes the interrelationship between state development, justice, the role of government, and societal welfare. This study aims to examine Ibn Khaldun’s Islamic economic thought regarding the concepts of development and state welfare. The research method employed is library research, analyzing Ibn Khaldun’s works as well as other supporting literature. The results of the study indicate that Ibn Khaldun viewed economic development as a process that must be supported by justice, political stability, societal productivity, and fair taxation policies. These concepts are relevant to modern economic development and are consistent with the principles of Islamic economics.
